Question about PCM??

Has anyone got a PCM from PCMforless.com...? I am wanting to know what the benefits are and also what all do they do the PCM? is it worth it?

depends on if they give you a stock tuned pcm or a personal
tuned pcm

heh, a programmed pcm or send your pcm in to them to get tuned would be better.
texas speed & performance does tunes also...

I really dont understand howa company can claim they know exactly what changes to make for a "Specific" setup... even if they do have experience with the particular car and mods.

Its a fact that all cars will react differently to the same tune even if the parts used are the same... I can understand how they can offer a midly modified stock tune as this is much easier to do and can be done without having the car in front of you to scan and retune. But if you think that someone can give you a specific tune for your mods without even seeing how the car runs with the current mods or how it reacts to the tune (other than tstat) you are sadly being ripped off and I would say that you are more than likely getting the same thing you would get if you ordered a "Generic tune"


Hell it was just found out that RSM sells supercharger kits and charges an extra $300 for what they claim is a pcm tuned to run their supercharger setup... in reality it turns out they were just giving back completely stock PCMs to their customers thinkin they would be too stupid/unable to have the file read out for them. Well their customers are alot smarter than once thought by RSM cause now they are gonna have a class action lawsuit against them.

I'm not sayin I know for sure what every Co. does but I do know what is needed to do a custom tune vs. a Generic tune. It just seems a little strange that these Companys make these claims.

well i mean what proof do you want? my car dyno-tuned 9 rwhp higher just from a stock PCM tune from tsp

but what is to say that you arent just getting a generic tune since there is definite power to be had from changing very small things on the stock pcm and these gains are almost always more so on modded cars with the same "generic" tune

dont get me wrong, I am not saying that mail order PCMs arent able to make power because I know that they can. I am just saying that unless you can actually see the changes have been made there isnt anyway to tell if you didnt just get a "generic" tune and charged for a supposed "custom" tune.... that and...

the only true way to do a custom tune is to actually have the car, tuner, and scanner and the make changes to the pcm based on the scanners readings. otherwise you are better off buying a boxed mail order pcm or getting a "generic tune"

why do they need to SEE the car? they can see dyno sheets, they can see timeslips. thats all they need along with a good list of mods. thats what i did.

how long did it take you to get your backs? Also am i able to put in a PCM from a 2001 Camaro into a 2000 firebird? Or will that not work? The one i am talking about is a buddy of mine who has the same stuff done to his car that i have done to mine! He has had his tuned already for his car and he wants to get rid of it.....Hope this will work but if you could help me out that would be great!

if your really think that what you said is true then ... You my friend have no clue what it takes/ what is involved in tuning a car.

Im very sorry that someone actually got you to think that was true but they lied to you big time...

Im sure that you can find out exactly what I mean from ANYONE who has a HPT or DHP tuner. (regardless of their success with tuning)

if i go by what you are trying to tell me then I could sit here and say to you send me a list of mods, a dyno sheet or 2, and a few timeslips... then I will send you a "custom tuned" PCM for $100 more than what I sell my generic tune for. then i give you a generic tune that will show improvements over the stock PCM, but so long as I dont tell you that part you think that you have a custom tune...... do you see what I am getting at? the generic tunes will show even more gains with a modded motor than with a stock motor so I can see how someone might be fooled into thinkin this way...

I dont know how much I would trust the pcm as there might be diffs in the file that could cause issues. I personally use the most current GM stock bin file to work a tune from. GM tends to make tons of changes to the PCM code over the years and even if your car runs ok there may be an updated file from GM.

if the only diffs are that its just another year then it may work but will require a CASE learn to operate correctly on your car.

lvemy i agree with you. The only excuse I would use to get a mail-order tune is if I wanted them to do a gear change. Someone said they dont mess with Fueling, but I dont know if I can believe that. I dont think they could help me with my custom P&P Tb/intakes/heads. AFR is a tricky thing to just Guess at. If I'm spending $150 on a mail-order, I might as well drop the extra $500 to get the EIO MPVI PRO of HP Tuners and do my own custom tuning specifically for my application. who knows? It seems worth it to me.

In that case, it may be worth it to go get raped from the stealership and get a stock tune and go from there.. to see what all they have updated.

I think a 2001 would work in a 2000 but I dont really know, thats just my guess.

or you can take it to someone like me and have an ACTUAL custom tune done for less $/headache of buying either DHP or HPT
