NO, there is a Bleeder Valve on the thermostat housing
You open it and let the air out!
    This is probably your problem!!

There should be a BIG warning saying OPEN THE BLEEDER VALVE!!
    Danger to teh manif0ld captain!!!

    OMG!!!
N00bs! Dont EVER let your coolant rise above the 215F mark!
You wanna know how to destroy an engine this is it!!
Hope your head gasket is still sealing!

      Re: overheating

no that is not how to bleed our systems. That only works on cars with the pressure cap on the reservoir and a sealed radiator. we have a bleeder screw just before the thermostat. This is probably why you are overheating. I hope you didn't toast your engine getting it so hot.

you'd be losing coolant, and/or having white smoke out the exhaust, and/or lack of power, and/or hydolock, and/or etc.

              Re: overheating

1 loss of coolant is a way to tell that its NOT sealing
2 low cylinder pressures on a pressure test
              3 very white exhaust
4 very clean cylinders and/or plugs
              ETC...

                        Re: overheating

you have a connecting rod connecting your piston to your crankshaft. when you hydrolock, more liquid (coolant) in the cylinder than available compressible space, you bend that rod. very expensive. motor ending until repair.

                            Re: overheating

it might but doubtful. you would know something was wrong. If you are not missing coolant, I would only be concerned with bleeding your system.

no very doubtful it would start
Just saying what COULD very easily happen to scare you so you wont choose to let it overheat again.
CLIFF NOTES: If overheating, turn it off!!

just watch your coolant temp, let it heat up to around the 195F area, then open the bleeder valve, keep it open till theres no more steam and just liquid coming out. refill radiator, repeat
